Amazon Expands Penalty Fee for High Returns

Amazon will start charging a penalty fee for products with high return rates on June 1st. This rule only affects items fulfilled by Amazon (FBA) and exempts those with fewer than 25 units shipped per month. If returns exceed the set limit within three months, fees will be charged on each extra return. Returns caused by Amazon's errors and customer mistakes are excluded from the fee. Sellers are worried about the increasing complexity and unpredictability of costs. They should categorize products correctly to avoid penalties.

Navigating Amazon Add-On Items in 2024

Amazon’s add-on items policy requires certain low-cost, lightweight products to be part of orders totaling over $25. This can negatively affect sales and frustrate customers, as they may abandon carts or leave negative reviews. Sellers face inventory challenges and higher fulfillment costs. To counteract these issues, sellers can increase prices, switch to Fulfilled by Merchant (FBM), bundle products, or offer multipacks. While these methods can help, diversifying product offerings may also be necessary. Despite the downsides, strategies exist to navigate and potentially benefit from the add-on items policy.
